Capitol Police Arrest Man Threatening Trump Cabinet Member

Ryan Michael English, a 24-year-old resident of South Deerfield, Massachusetts, has been indicted on two counts in the US District Court for attempting to assassinate a Cabinet member and for possessing a dangerous weapon on the grounds of the United States Capitol Building.

The indictment arises from English’s alleged attempt to access the premises with a knife and two improvised Molotov cocktails on January 27, 2025, with the intent to harm Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The charges were brought forth by US Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. and US Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger. Currently incarcerated, English made his initial court appearance this afternoon. Known by the nickname ‘Reily,’ he faces charges related to the possession of a dangerous weapon or incendiary device on Capitol grounds, as well as unlawful possession of an incendiary device.

On January 27, 2025, at approximately 3:12 p.m., English approached a US Capitol Police Officer near the South Door of the Capitol Building and stated, ‘I would like to surrender myself.’ He also confessed to possessing a knife and two homemade incendiary devices.

Upon inspection, officers found a folding knife and two improvised incendiary devices concealed in the inner pockets of his jacket, which were constructed from 50 milliliter vodka bottles with gray cloths affixed to their tops. Additionally, a green lighter was located in another pocket.

During the search, English allegedly confessed to being present at the Capitol with the intent to assassinate a presidential candidate who was testifying before the United States Senate. Authorities also found a letter in his pocket that read, ‘This is terrible, but I cannot remain passive while Nazis harm my sisters…

I sincerely apologize for my deceit, planning, and dishonesty.’ English further admitted to traveling to the District of Columbia with the intention of killing a government official or targeting a think tank organization based in Washington, D.C.

Earlier this week, Attorney General Pam Bondi disclosed that the FBI is currently reviewing a substantial number of videos featuring Jeffrey Epstein with minors or depicting child pornography, and that there are numerous victims involved, as she addressed the concerns regarding the delay in the release of case files.

The FBI is thoroughly examining this material,” Bondi informed reporters on Wednesday morning, clarifying that the extensive amount of evidence is the reason for the lack of additional files being made available. Epstein, a convicted sex offender and financier, took his own life in a New York prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking.

His wealth and philanthropic efforts had positioned him as a significant figure in various sectors, including politics, academia, and finance. Nevertheless, the complete extent of his criminal activities remains unclear, particularly regarding the potential involvement of any accomplices aside from his imprisoned associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, and the new Trump administration has pledged to ensure full transparency concerning the Epstein files.

Representative James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky and the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has voiced his apprehension that significant records related to Epstein may have been destroyed before the inauguration of the Trump administration.

“The president ordered their release, the attorney general ordered their release, and it is widely acknowledged that they have not been made public,” Comer stated during an appearance on The Benny Show. As a participant in the House Oversight Task Force focused on the declassification of government secrets, which is currently examining the Epstein files, Comer is actively involved in this initiative, which is led by Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).

In April, Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims, tragically took her own life after enduring prolonged mental health challenges. This incident marked yet another sorrowful chapter in the Epstein saga. The 41-year-old woman was the mother of three children.

Epstein himself died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal child sex trafficking charges. The affluent and influential financier, who possessed a private island estate in the U.S. Virgin Islands, has long been the focus of speculation regarding an alleged list of high-profile clients.

Certain individuals have alleged that the authorities are hiding such a list; however, numerous sources knowledgeable about both the civil and criminal proceedings involving Epstein assert that no such list has ever been discovered.
