M*A*S*H legend has died aged 82

At the age of 82, a renowned actor known for his roles in some of the most acclaimed television series has passed away. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Patrick Adiarte, who appeared in ‘MASH’ and ‘The Brady Bunch,’ died in a Los Angeles hospital on Tuesday. His niece, Stephanie Hogan, reported that pneumonia was the cause of his death. Adiarte, a Filipino actor and dancer, is best remembered for his portrayal of Ho-Jon in ‘MASH.’ In the 1970s, during the first season of the CBS series, the character, a Korean orphan, assisted Hawkeye Pierce (played by Alan Alda) and Trapper John McIntyre (played by Wayne Rogers) in seven episodes. He also made a notable appearance in the 1972 three-part season four premiere of ‘The Brady Bunch,’ which depicted Bobby Brady’s discovery of a cursed tiki idol during a family vacation in Hawaii. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Adiarte performed in the Broadway productions of the musicals ‘The King and I’ (featuring Yul Brynner) and ‘Flower Drum Song,’ as well as in their film adaptations. Following his dancing career on the NBC variety show ‘Hullabaloo,’ he briefly pursued a singing career, achieving a pop hit with ‘Five Different Girls.’ His acting credits also include roles in ‘High Time,’ ‘Bonanza,’ ‘Hawaii Five-O,’ ‘Kojak,’ and ‘John Goldfarb, Please Come Home.’ Born Patrick Robert Adiarte on August 2, 1942, in Manila, he was imprisoned by the Japanese during World War II and suffered burns from a grenade when his family attempted to escape when he was just two years old. His family moved to New York in 1946, and he became a U.S. citizen in 1956 after his father was killed while serving as a captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He later taught dance, including at Santa Monica College, as reported by Deadline. Adiarte is survived by his niece and nephew. He was married to cabaret singer Loni Ackerman from 1975 until their divorce in 1992. His sister passed away in 2016.
